The Canadian Machine Tool Distributors Association (CMTDA) was founded in 1942 as a trade association dedicated to the marketing of machine tools and services in Canada through distributorship companies. Among its goals, the CMTDA aims to provide means whereby problems affecting the industry can be readily discussed and to cooperate to further the interests of the industry by all desirable means. As well, the CMTDA aims to stimulate growth in the use of machine tools and secure wider markets for these tools.
The Canadian Tooling & Machining Association (CTMA) was established in 1963 by combining various trade associations to produce one strong organization to represent the “Tooling Industry.” The term “Tooling Industry” includes designing, manufacturing, repairing or assembling for the purpose of selling tools, dies, moulds, jigs, fixtures, gauges, machinery, machining systems, robotics, automation equipment, models, patterns, general jobbing machine shop products and cutting tools. Restricting membership to manufacturers and industry suppliers as associate members has assured that the Association will always be devoted to Canadian manufacturing in the tooling and machining sectors.
